For over forty years John Charles Pitcher has expressed his passion for birds and the natural world through his sketches and paintings.  His success in capturing the sense of a place and likeness of his subjects reveals not only his mastery of technique but also his passion and knowledge as a naturalist.

First developing his observational and artistic skills in Alaska he studied and painted birds for twelve years.  Quickly gaining recognition as an Artist/Naturalist he taught bird ID classes for the Anchorage Audubon Society and guided and co-led Alaskan birding tours.  As a guest naturalist on the famous natural history cruise ship, the M.S. Lindblad Explorer, he shared his passion for nature and art while voyaging Alaska’s inland waterways and the Aleutian and Bering Sea islands.

Pitcher spent the next ten years in the shadow of Mt. St. Helens, WA where he painted and taught Nature Journaling to adults and students from his studio at the Cispus Learning Center, Randle, WA

As a WREAF (Wilderness River Expedition Art Foundation) artist crewmember, Pitcher canoed and painted the wilderness waters of the Missinaibi River, Ontario, the George River, Nunavik and the migrating caribou herds of northern Labrador, Canada

From 1996 John and his wife Sue Westin, a master artist, have maintain their studios and gallery along the shores of the Dorset Marsh, Dorset, VT

An honored Signature Member of the Society of Animal Artists, Pitcher exhibits in museums and major galleries throughout the country and abroad. Visit John’s website:
