An Upcoming One World Event

Historical discussion and interpretive walk at the Norman and Selma Greenberg Conservation Reserve
September 30, 2017
10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Saturday 9/30/17 10 AM–12 PM (rain or shine)

Jock Irons, OWCC board member, will present a slideshow about the history of the One World Conservation Center (OWCC) and Norman & Selma Greenberg Reserve. He will then lead an interpretative nature walk in the Reserve with special guest, Jim Henderson, of the Bennington County regional Commission. The will demonstrate improvements to the Reserve and talk about future plans for management of the Reserve. For example, we plan to construct a Silvicultural Demonstration Trail as an educational tool for local landowners to demonstrate various forest management options. Discussion includes plans for a connector trail to the Greenberg Headwaters Park.

The One World Conservation Center is a nature center in Bennington, Vermont.  We bring nature education and experience to our community and its visitors.  Our work is grounded in our local ecology and linked to global biodiversity. The Norman and Selma Greenberg Conservation Reserve, owned by OWCC, conserves 96 acres of open meadow, wetland and wooded hillside at the southern entrance to Bennington. Once a dairy farm, today it is a classroom for children and area college students. It is equally welcoming to area residents for nature walks, short hikes and dog walking.

The current trail system includes a main trail that cuts through an open meadow and links to the main trails beyond. A boardwalk trail called the Wetland Overlook provides viewing opportunities in the wetland. The Trolley Line trail, on an old rail bed, opens vistas over the wetland and up and down the Valley of Vermont. Woodland trails traverse distinctive forest stands to reveal artifacts from the time the hillside was farmed.

Fee: $5 suggested donation. Members: No charge
